Anglická občanská válka která vyvrcholila až k popravě Karla I. a odjezdu Karla II. do exilu mezi britskými parlamentaristy a roajalisty skončila vítěstvím parlamentu v bitvě u Worcesteru 3.září 1651 a Anglie se stala republikou pod velením Oliwera Cromwella.Před vypuknutím války neměl parlament v rukou skoro žádnou politickou moc byl spíše seskupením králových rádců než ten parlament který známe dnes.Karel poté zase parlament rozpustil.Aby karel potlačil rebely ve skotsku zase tal postavit parlament ten se poté spykl a vyvolal občanskou válku.
